  1. Preheat oven to 350°F.
  2. Mix together rhubarb and ½ cup sugar.
  3. Set aside.
  4. Cream shortening, remaining ½ cup sugar and brown sugar.
  5. Add egg and then stir in baking soda, salt, cinnamon and flour.
  6. Stir in vanilla, then rhubarb mixture.
  7. Place batter in a greased and floured 13x9" baking pan and bake for 40-45 minutes.
  8. Let cool, sprinkle with confectioners' sugar and cut into 2" squares.
